Breaking the Rules - TRADE by BlackMage339 Breaking the Rules - TRADE by BlackMage339
My half of an art trade with :iconoutlaw-duo-f: designed to get us out of the art doldrums. We both picked a theme for each other from the 100 Theme challenge to inspire a group/couple picture, and mine was Breaking the Rules.

A flapper and a small time gangster making off with (not a lot of) cash - their love is full of fun, lawbreaking, petty thievery and gunfights, but they wouldn't have it any other way :)

I have requested critique because I can, and I'm not happy with the pencil shading to be honest (meant to do it in markers but couldn't find the green). I d like the negative space though.

Awww it's a lovely pic! The coloring it's really neat and nice and the poses have a lot of movement. Very exceptional coloring as always! :D I specially loved the amount of detail you put in the outfits, they both look so elegant and dashing ^^ I loved the expressions too! because they feel genuine and show much love :aww:

Thank you very much :) The fashion and energy of the 20s is what makes that period of history so fascinating to me, people just seemed to suddenly go nuts and everything was so outrageous :D

The flapper is definitely my favorite part. x3 Not to mention the over all adorableness of their little eskimo kiss!

Thanks, I love 20s fashion so it was so much fun to make up a little show outfit for her :D They're so cavalier about the whole thing they've even got time for a little eskimo kiss XD

lol that's brilliant! I love the detal you put into their outfits, that jacket takes the cake and wins over everything I think! I also like that you took the time to even add a proper name on the loot bags :XD: rather than just writing "swag"...which is what I would have been tempted to do

Thank you - it was hard finding two colours which clash enough but not too much XD Ah, yes - an unimaginative bank name but oh well! :D Swag would make more sense though!

Its surprising that there's enough money to go around XD And that people still bank there.

It's got the city stamp on it, people only care about the name :XD: They can then go and say 'I bank at City Hall...what pesky unknown little bank do you bank at?" everyone wants to get their money stolen from City Hall, that way they're linked to notorious criminals and their fame goes through the roof and they can also complain to fellow rich folk about how their spare change was stolen

"Oh it was ghastly, darling - all my pocket money stolen away in the night, all $500000 of it, disgraceful...detective James Hardbitten is on the case of course."*

*sample line from any period mystery thriller XD

Love the idea — they do look a bit Harley-and-Joker-esque.
I really like the detail — detail KILLS me, so I admire anyone who can pull it off! And I like the thick, black outline around the outside edges, it makes it very striking.

They really do - it was original then I drew her face and Harley happened XD The thick outline was a tip I read somewhere and tried it out with my artist pens, all it is is just going round the whole shape of the piece with a black pen and it seems to tie it all together and make it look 100% better :D

Oh my gosh, how did you finish this so fast? I haven't even started mine (which is sort of going against the purpose, but...)! Anyway, I think it's great. It's adorable!

Chop chop, you, get it done! XD Kidding, starting a drawing is the worst part for me, but once I'm started I will happily sit up all night finishing it :D Thank you ^^ I hope it fits the theme somewhat - can't wait to see yours! :D
